President Barack Obama, despite the opinion polls, still has a large body of supporters and rallying them for the November elections may be the best way to get a national effort moving.
I suspect that many hesitant voters could be motivated to go to the polls if they believe they will be supporting and defending the president in the process. Those who are not happy with Obama will simply ignore any campaign invoking his name.
The beauty of the presidential campaign is that you are working for one candidate all across the country. In the midterms, the important races are local or statewide. Thus, there are hundreds or thousands of important races throughout the US.
By rallying around the president, the Democrats can simplify the process of getting a national movement to vote off the ground.
