Howard Dean considred for surgeon general

CNN is reporting that Dr. Howard Dean is under consideration to replace Dr. Sanjay Gupta as President Barack Obama's nominee for surgeon general.

Gupta withdrew Thursday saying he wants to focus more on his family and career as a surgeon.

Dean, a former presidential candidate, ended a four-year term as head of the Democratic Party this year. His accomplishments include helping the Democrats recapture both Congress and the White House.

The surgeon general head U.S. Public Health Service and is the top federal government spokesperson on matters of public health.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Howard Dean, a practicing physician before entering politics, was under consideration by the Obama administration for the post of US surgeon general, CNN reported Friday.
