Is the early state strategy a wise plan? Do Iowa and New Hampshire act as racial barriers guarding the gates for "good old boy" types?

Seems like not much attention is given to South Carolina and Nevada. The latter state in particular is much closer to the overall U.S. demographic.

The early states may be important if candidate's seem them as important. Those candidates who don't choose to be taken in by results in early states have gone on to win including the last two presidents to win open elections -- Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- each losing both states in their first presidential runs. They were able to recover though and win.

However, if the candidate and supporters collapse after losing one or both of these states, if they collapse internally, then of course one has to look at them as important.
