Obama's support among youth, polls

An opinion piece in The Daily Campus a student publication of the University of Connecticut illustrates Barack Obama's appeal among youth.

Such popularity, again, will translate into lots of energy that will need to be focused by people with experience. Without the benefit of experience, all that enthusiasm has a tendency of getting scattered and wasted.

The candidate was in the media spotlight again today when a protester interrupted hearings on the Katrina/Rita reconstruction efforts in Louisiana. Obama is among a groups of senators attending that hearing. From now until the end of the primaries, each candidate will struggle to get the most advantage of free media coverage.

Polls

One shouldn't worry about current poll numbers. The people are just starting to learn about the candidates, and many of the latter are just starting to get their campaign machines and fundraising up and running.

Polls are much more important in the last few months and weeks before the primaries begin. And those first few primaries are crucial. They determine who has the momentum on their side, and momentum is key to winning elections.
