Still waiting for Obama numbers

Note that the Obama campaign has not released its numbers for June, so we can't say for sure that they are behind Romney.  Even if they are behind, we don't know by how much.

While it's difficult to say how much the campaign will need to get its message out, the general cost of an ad campaign in the battleground states seems to be around $20 to $25 million.  So, if the campaign ran one of these each month, then you would have to add to this amount the operational expenses for the offices, staff, ground campaign, etc.

Probably in the last few weeks, they will spend maybe double or triple this amount on ads, maybe more.

In the 2008 election, the Obama campaign spent $235,974,838 on TV ads between April 3 and November 5.  That averages out to about $33.7 million a month, although a larger portion was spent during the latter part of this period just before the election.
