Obama addresses debt and deficit

President Barack Obama kept the heat up on the Republicans during his weekend video address.

Obama has still said that he does not want to sign a short term extension of the debt ceiling. In an earlier press conference, he said that he would reform Medicare by implementing a means test to determine how much people should pay for medical bills.

The president insists that wealthy American and corporations should pay their fair share of taxes.

I agree with President Obama there should be a balance. I'm tired of them bulling the poor and stripping away their dignity and selfworth. What is the matter with the republicans with this foolery. The elite should be made to pay more taxes seems as though they want the rich to get richer and the poor to become even more poor. They are making a mockery of this country. They are not working for us they are working against us. They have closed facilities that the poor have used, taken away social security increases and they think it is okay to hit the poor again this is unacceptable. The poor are not havng it any more we are ready to take a stand and we will be heard. We need a homeostasis. This sounds like United States greed.

During the last Presidential election, CSpan2 Book TV aired a program where the author discussed the results of his or her research, which suggested that something like 5-10% of Democrats , and 5-10% of Republicans, essentially debated and defined the ideological constructs of each party. The point was that the vast, vast, vast majority of the citizens of this country have their lives dictated by the most active and vocal members of society, who also happen to be more privileged .

I strongly suspect that the same thing is occurring with the debt ceiling debate. The debate is not really about the debt ceiling per se, but rather a very deep, long-standing debate about the role and size of government. It’s never been resolved, and never will be resolved in our representative democracy. However, in the mean time, the regular folks in our society run the risk of being irreparably damaged. The elites (the upper and upper middle socio-economic classes) on each side of the fence have theirs, their corporate contributions, decent jobs and income, and will fare just fine economically. It’s the ordinary citizens (lower middle socio-economic class) who will most likely get screwed, no matter which side ultimately prevails in the short term.

Hmmm, I may be naive, but logic tells me that if tax increases or no tax increases on the wealthy are tied to American job creation then both sides and the American people win. A corporation increases x% of its American workforce and they don't pay higher taxes. A corporation sends jobs overseas or excessive executive corporate salaries don't trickle down to American job creation, they pay more taxes.
