Obama to announce Afghan intentions at West Point

President Barack Obama will give an address at the United States Military Academy at West Point on Tuesday night detailing his Afghanistan strategy. He will announce both his intention to send more than 30,000 more troops to the region, and also elaborate on an exit strategy for Afghanistan.

The announcement of a large deployment of extra troops is angering many Obama supporters, although the president had, during his campaign, promised to be more active in Afghanistan while at the same time pulling out of Iraq.

Still, many of his supporters had hoped that he might have changed his mind, and many of his actions were interpreted as indicating a possible change of course.

There is hope that Obama's endgame, of which no details have been released, will allow the president to quickly assess the situation after the deployment and decide on whether the current course of action is warranted or not.

Although I am a great supporter of Obama, I don't agree on this one. Military solutions never works in my opinion, although I understand that Obama regards the civilian changes (ex schools, police) as most important.
