Obama gives first prime-time press conference tonight

At 8 pm ET tonight, President Barack Obama will hold his first prime-time press conference since taking office last month.

The press conference is part of a media effort, resembling tactics used during an election campaign, to attract public support for his economic stimulus package. The House bill received no Republican votes and just a few Senate Republicans are supporting the Senate version.

Obama spoke at a town hall-style meeting in a region of Indiana hit hard by the economic downturn.

On Tuesday, Obama will visit Fort Myers, Fla., an area suffering from the mortgage meltdown.
