Why Hillary will likely be offered VP spot

It's the right thing to do.

It was the right thing for the superdelegates to follow the will of the people rather than to try and figure out who would be the best general election candidate. No one can say for sure what is going to happen in any election. Most of the seasoned pundits, for example, thought that Clinton was the inevitable nominee.

If Hillary had won, the right thing to do would be to offer the job to Barack.

Now she may not want the job. She may not be willing to undergo the vetting process that could require examination of the family's financial records. And of course if something should turn up from such vetting, then all bets are off.

But as Barack said himself, her candidacy opened up future opportunities for his own daughters. Both Hillary and Barack's campaigns smashed barriers for women and African Americans, and really for all minorities, and the fitting way to honor these accomplishments is rather obvious.

Furthermore, Barack's victory was not overwhelming. In close contests like this one, the traditional thing is to take one's opponent as a running mate. Even in the bitter contest between Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush, Reagan sucked it up and offered the VP slot to Bush.

Should Barack fail to offer the position to Hillary, and he loses, then we know that many people will ask how he could ignore someone who garnered nearly as many votes as himself especially as she has shown today her willingness to be his surrogate.

Of course, if he chooses her and he still loses, then people will blame it on Hillary and her "baggage" or whatever. But the argument is noticeably weaker here. Obviously Hillary supporters would not blame Barack for choosing Hillary.

While some elder statesman have advised against choosing Hillary, I still think that propriety will probably win over speculation.
