Expanding the Map to 50 States

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe briefed reporters today on the 50 state strategy planned for the general election.

The campaign involves a massive voter registration and turnout effort.

Most campaigns would avoid working in any of the states but those targeted as vulnerable to swing one way or another.

The Obama strategy though activates the maximum number of supporters in all states by getting them involved in grassroots operations. In most cases, these states will pay for themselves while still contributing to the national effort.

A basic principle involved is that more people are likely to get active when they can work locally on the ground. This leads to a larger and stronger overall network with more resources, of various kinds, to apply to the battleground states also.
