Cost of the Iraq War

The Iraq War, opposed by Barack Obama from the start, but authorized by his opponents may end up costing between $1 - $2 trillion even if the war ends in the next few years.

Here is a breakdown of the costs as provided by nationalpriorities.org:
  • $275 million per day
  • $4,100 per household
  • Almost 4,000 U.S. soldiers killed and more than 60,000 wounded
  • 700,000 Iraqis killed and 4 million refugees
  • Money spent on Iraq could on a yearly basis provide 39 million people with health care, build 13,842 new elementary schools or build 1,070,377 affordable housing units.
