Barack Obama on Iraq War

Let's compare the history of Barack Obama's stance on the Iraq War to the other two front runners, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.

Notice that Barack is the only that has been right from the start.

Hillary Clinton
  1. Voted YES on authorizing use of military force against Iraq. (Oct 2002)
"The facts that have brought us to this fateful vote are not in doubt."
  2. Agrees with Newt Gingrich that Iraq policy is a mess. (Dec 2003)
  3. Phased redeployment out of Iraq, beginning immediately. Refuses to admit authorization vote was a mistake. (Oct 2006)
If the most important thing to any of you is choosing someone who did not cast that vote or has said his vote was a mistake, then there are others to choose from.

John Edwards

  1. Voted YES on authorizing use of military force against Iraq. (Oct 2002)
"I mean, we have three different countries that, while they all present serious problems for the United States -- they're dictatorships, they're involved in the development and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction -- you know, the most imminent, clear and present threat to our country is not the same from those three countries. I think Iraq is the most serious and imminent threat to our country."
  2. Supporting Iraq war OK, but how war was conducted not OK. (Feb 2004)
  3. Accepts responsibility for Iraq War vote, admits mistake and calls for troop draw down. (Feb 2007)

Barack Obama

  1. Publicly opposed Iraq War on eve of invasion. (2002)
"But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history."
  2. He said he did not oppose all wars, but opposes Iraq during U.S. Senate campaign. (2004)
"I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war."
  3. Proposes plan to withdraw starting May 1 2007; finish by March 31 2008. (Apr 2007)

What would an American President claiming moral leadership of the world say and do on IRAQ beyond just withdrawing from there?

To start with, a sincere apology to the Iraqi people, to start the process of healing?

Can Obama show this greatness, or is his opposition to the Iraq war merely from narrow US interest?

I have a son in the army. and I was against the war from the start and didn't vote for it, so can I run for President. I know about as much as Obama when it comes to running this country. Bet you won't show this comment.

This is to help clear up the war vote for the young people in America.

Obama condemns Clinton for her war vote, which just shows his inexperience.
I am in a union and we have a strike vote every 3 years. Our union president needs to have the power to negotiate with the company. Our plant has only struck once in the history of our plant, which is about 50 years.

It would be silly for our union president to negotiate face to face with the company without the backing of people and the threat of a strike backing him up. Without the backing the people the president has lost before he even opens the door.

So our strike vote is the same vote as the senate vote. It shows that the president has the backing of the people to enter into negotiations with the threat of strike or war.

No one in our union as in the senate wanted the president to strike or as Bush to go war. But it was the president's judgment to go to war, not the senate.

Now don't get me wrong, I was against the war also, but, I can't undo the past as well as the senate. We can only hope our sacrifice doesn't go in vain.

It is easy for Obama to condemn when he was sitting on the side lines. Obama said he was right on the war vote, and looking back now he was, and President Bush shouldnt have taken the US of America to war. Obama still is too green behind the ears to run the country, and he is too liberal to negotiate for the foreign dangers around the world.

Hell, Obama said he would bomb Pakistan without even telling Pakistan it was coming and they have the bomb in an insane part of the Middle East.

How is Obama any different than President Bush when it comes to answering the PHONE at 3 am to bomb Pakistan?

Mr Obama needs to continue to tell us in a straightforward manner exactly what he intends to do regarding the war... and that should take the Iraqi people into account as well.
