Rep. Schakowsky endorses Obama

Barack Obama picked up the endorsement of fellow Illinois Dem. Jan Schakowsky today.

Schakowsky said that Obama was the only candidate " who really has the capacity to send a very different signal around the world, someone who can effectively go to capitals of both our allies and our adversaries and create a new new tone that creates the space for peace."

In Obama's foreign policy speech today he spoke of ridding the world of nuclear weapons and also stressed these points:

* He would personally conduct negotiations with other nations, including hostile countries.

* Give the director of national intelligence a fixed term of office, so he could not be replaced by the president for political reasons.

* Fight global poverty and double foreign assistance to $50 billion a year.
