Illinois SEIU endorses Obama, Iowa goes for Edwards

Illinois state chapter of the Service Employees International Union has unanimously voted to endorse Barack Obama for president.

SEIU President Tom Balanoff described Obama as "a real fighter for working families."

However, the Iowa chapter of SEIU announced today it will be supporting John Edwards. This reportedly will prevent Illinois SEIU members from coming to campaign for Obama in Iowa.

The national SEIU will not be making an endorsement, but other state chapters are expected to announce their support soon.

One of the most important union endorsements the candidates can seek for the early states is that of the Culinary Workers in Nevada, which has a reputation of turning elections one way or another. Another important union is AFSCME.
