Obama gets former SC Democratic chief's endorsement

Presidential candidate Barack Obama picked up a welcome endorsement Monday from Dick Harpootlian, the former haed of the South Carolina Democratic Party.

"I see in Barack Obama ... the same magnetism I saw in Bill Clinton," said Harpootlian on Friday, who also said he would immediately begin fundraising for the senator. "I think it will be easy to raise money for him."

On Tuesday, Obama will attend a star-studded Hollywood fundraiser, the biggest celebrity bash so far this campaign, hosted by the moguls of DreamWorks SKG. On the same day he will attend an afternoon rally at Ranch Cienega Sports Complex where he is expected to discuss bring all combat troops home from Iraq by March 2008, and on the need for energy independence.
