Obama reaches agreement on healthcare

President Barack Obama reached a deal with labor leaders today as part of an effort to pass healthcare before a crucial senate election in Massachusetts.

The White House agreed to exempt labor union members from a tax on high-cost insurance plans until 2018.

The senate race between Attorney General Martha Coakley and State Senator Scott Brown for the seat of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.)occurs on Tuesday. There is some concern that the Democrats could lose their 60 seat majority in what has been a very close contest.

Obama also wants to have healthcare reform passed before his first State of the Union address to be held sometime over the next several weeks.
