Obama stands by Geithner

President Barack Obama continued to defend Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Saturday.

Obama said he would not accept a Geithner resignation amidst a storm of criticism on the handling of the financial crisis. The news of the A.I.G. bonuses may have been the last straw against Geithner, who also suffers from image problems due to tax problems revealed during his confirmation hearing.

However, Geithner is expected to discuss his plan to mend the banking system in testimony before a congressional committee on Thursday,
