Obama restores process in protecting endangered species

President Barack Obama today signed a presidential memorandum to restore the scientific process in endangered species matters.

A regulation by George W. Bush just before leaving office threatened the established practice treating endangered species.

Obama said that there was a "false choice" between growing the economy and preserving the environment. "The work of scientists and experts in my administration, including here at the Interior Department, will be respected," Obama said. "With smart, sustainable policies, we can grow our economy today and preserve the environment."
