Obama Isn't the Only One Being Inaugurated on Jan. 20th
I think it is a great idea to inaugurate the people as stakeholders in the "new era of citizen responsibility and engagement."
While many observers have been watching Obama's every move since the historic election win, we cannot forget the message of change was primarily that we must be the change that we are seeking. Obama and others can only help us get there.
Of course, we need to hold the president-elect and other elected officials to their word. They need to be fully accountable, but we also need to be proactive and constructive. In addition to demanding that the government fix our communities, we need to do something on our own to help in this process like volunteering for civic work.
Altruism is contagious as most people like that warm fuzzy feeling that results from caring, but there also may be some survival impulses involved. This would be a higher instinct -- knowing that the same "safety net" would be there for yourself or your loved ones if the need should arise.
