Obama creates Performance Officer position

President-elect Barack Obama has created the new position of chief performance officer to oversee the national budget.

Obama has resigned himself to trillion dollar deficits over at least the next few years indicating a reluctance to raise taxes on higher tax brackets.

Sources said Obama has chosen Nancy Killefer, a director at McKinsey & Company and a former assistant secretary of the treasury in the Bill Clinton administration. Obama is expected to announce his choice Wednesday morning.

President-elect Barack Obama vowed Tuesday to bar lawmakers' pet projects from his massive economic stimulus plan and to bring unprecedented accountability to federal spending. (Jan. 6)

I hope by creating new government posts we are not creating additional layer of bureaucracy on top of existing large bureaucracy, but at the same time there is a need to monitor performance and have a good eye on performance.
