Obama and timing of Gaza invasion

Watching the Israeli ground invasion of Gaza it's hard not to wonder whether the timing of this has anything to do with the incoming adminstration of President-elect Barack Obama.

Obama's reaction to invasion of this type is considered something of an unknown in Israel as compared to the "in the bag" reaction expected of outgoing President George W. Bush. Therefore, one has to wonder if Israel is not 'making hay while the sun shines,' i.e. before Obama takes office.

There are many progressives too who wonder how Obama will treat this part of the world with some suggesting that there will be little change from past administrations. However, Israel's doubt seems to indicate that not all the right signs are coming from Obama's side. Polls had shown that Israelis preferred both Hillary Clinton and John McCain over Obama during the presidential campaign.
