Gov. Blagojevich names Burris for Obama seat

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has appointed former state Attorney General Roland Burris to fill President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant U.S. Senate seat.

Burris is the third African American U.S. senator to serve from Illinois and the only black U.S. senator currently in office.

At the Chicago press conference, Blagojevich asked people not to associate Burris with the controversy over the governor's alleged corrupt dealings in choosing Obama's successor.
