Obama-Clinton?

Is the fundraising night on Thursday with Sen. Hillary Clinton and the subsequent campaign appearances a prelude to an Obama-Clinton ticket?

There are a lot of different opinions out there. Some people with supposed 'inside' connections say that Hillary has been taken off the "short list." Others claim she is the inevitable VP pick.

As I've said before, the pressure on Obama to pick Clinton is major. A very substantial chunk of the Democratic Party base, judging from the DNC votes and endorsements, are former Clinton-backers, many of them actively campaigning for Hillary as Obama's running mate.

The Obama campaign has been very secretive about the selection process, other than naming the committee that will vet the potential picks.

Clinton has enemies within the party, especially from the progressive wing, who oppose her on ideological grounds. Then, there are others who think that a "balanced" ticket should include a white male as VP.

It may be that the upcoming events will allow Obama to test the waters with Clinton, to see whether the two can work together, and to test the reaction among both camps of supporters.
