I feel strongly enough to write. I am a Democrat (who just changed to an Independent in this primary) who is so disillusioned with what Obama presented to the American public as his initial persona - and as time has evolved and we have had an opportunity to learn more about this young and untapped politician - it turns out that he has as much luggage and ugly inflamatory traits that he carefully hid and packaged as do the older seasoned politicians that he has attacked earlier in the year. And as the primaries rolled on and he accumulated delegates - which might make him the imminent Democratic candidate- he may be beatable by the Republicans because now he has exposed himself as a young Washington politician with little to no political saavy and lot of political liablilty. Is that the best candidate to go into the election with? And all the media is already calling for an implosion of the party and possible street riots if the superdelegates go with strategy (possibly giving delegates to Hillary for the good of the general election) vs. strictly by the outcome of the primaries. Doesn't the media have a responsibility to tone it down and not inflame the situation? Don't they think that you can indeed influence the mood of the American people - because they can. As surely as our politicians have a responsibility to be honest and open with this nation - so does the media in their reporting of events. The media have become tabloid-like in their coverage of events - the higher they can escalate the drama - the better! The coverage of Barack Obama has been timely and necessary - the arguements pro and con seemingly falling almost across racial divides. Clearly we haven't progressed as far as a nation as we thought just 3 weeks ago. But obviously - his "spiritual leader" hasn't progressed from his divisive writings of the '60's - and can't get beyond his hateful rhetoric that endorses racial, cultural and spiritual separateness. This is not what any religion in any format should teach. And isn't this why we rant about Islamists' as Americans - (I am not implying that Obama is an Islamist - I am just drawing a corollary between points for illustration) - that they teach and spew such a repugnant message of separateness and divergent belief systems and perspectives that we just can't find our way to a common ground. I was mortified tonight on a TV broadcast to hear someone comment during an interview (and I believe it was a fellow parishioner) that they thought that the Reverend Wright felt he had to keep the struggle of the African American on the front burner - to not let his congregation forget where they came from. What purpose does this serve in 2008? Does this not just keep racial division alive and current? Should I be concerned as a white American that if Barack Obama is elected that I will be seeing reparations become a reality in my lifetime? Barack states that he has no ties to lobbyist and special interest groups - but I beg to differ at this juncture. As I watch this develop - I am confident that his lobbyist and special interest groups are sitting in those pews every Sunday or are preaching from that pulpit and that does indeed worry me as much as Mike Huckabees affiliation did to his church or Pat Robertsons influence in the past, Jerry Falwell etc. Barack Obama's long-term relationship with Reverend Wright is not only indicitive of his tolerance and tacit acceptance of this un-American propaganda, but goes to his ability to govern the greatest Nation in the world. He is not the American he presented himself to be and not the American we need for our next sitting president. This is the message that needs to be getting out on the blogs - that America is concerned and will not be happy with this man as the Democratic candidate.
