Barack Obama in the General Electon

There's no need paying attention to the polls this early. Despite the great turnout during the primary, you can expect larger participation during the general election this fall.

Yes, a lot of people do not bother to vote during the primary. Many of them will vote during the general election, when they will start to take notice of who's running. At that time, the polls will being to shift. Even into the last week and last few days it is not unusual to see the polls swinging in competitive races.

I have a nagging suspicion also that a lot of Barack and Hillary supporters that are getting polled might fib when asked about supporting the other candidate in the general election. They want their choice to look better against McCain.

It's hard to imagine that either Democrat would not be favored against McCain in November. The energy on the Democratic side is tremendous. Fundraising and turnout is breaking records at every turn. People are tired of Iraq and the economy, seen widely as a Bush economy, is seriously ailing.

John McCain also is not exactly the darling of conservative Republicans. Although they're trying to look unified, there are some doubts about their ability to energize the base of the party.

The race might end up becoming a fight for independent voters and this area John McCain has been very strong. Of the two Democrats, Barack has done much better at drawing support from independents. He also has the best organized campaign of the three current contenders.

So no need to worry about November now. The focus is now is getting the delegates for Barack to win the nomination.

I heard a report today that Hillary's "misspoken" comments about being exposed to sniper fire in Bosnia may have been been partly due to sleep deprevation. I was wondering, is that the kind of person who should be answering phone calls in the White House at 3:00 AM?
