Sen. Barack Obama today got a big endorsement from Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland.
Lee is a major force in progressive politics and an important leader in the African American community of California.
''He does represent that bridge to the future; he reprsents hope, new direction which our country desperate needs,'' Lee told the San Francisco Chronicle this morning. ''This is a very powerful and defining moment for our country, and my conscience is my guide. I can't sit on the sidelines when we have an opportunity to move forward.''
Lee was one of the leaders of the anti-war movement in Congress. She is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
