Barack Obama Quotes

Obama Quotes on Climate Change

All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster.
- Barack Obama

The issue of climate change is one that we ignore at our own peril. There may still be disputes about exactly how much we're contributing to the warming of the earth's atmosphere and how much is naturally occurring, but what we can be scientifically certain of is that our continued use of fossil fuels is pushing us to a point of no return. And unless we free ourselves from a dependence on these fossil fuels and chart a new course on energy in this country, we are condemning future generations to global catastrophe.
- Barack Obama

Today we're seeing that climate change is about more than a few unseasonably mild winters or hot summers. It's about the chain of natural catastrophes and devastating weather patterns that global warming is beginning to set off around the world.. the frequency and intensity of which are breaking records thousands of years old.

Obama Quotes on the Iraq War

"Why are you always reminding us that you opposed the war? Isn't that yesterday's news? Is that experience really relevant?" And what I always say is this -- this isn't just about the past, it's about the future.
- Barack Obama

I didn't see the weapons of mass destruction at the time, I didn't think there was an imminent threat from Saddam Hussein.
- Barack Obama

I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war.
-- Barack Obama

There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.
- Barack Obama

We're not going to baby sit a civil war.
- Barack Obama

Obama Quotes on Social Issues

We reward people a lot for being rich, for being famous, for being cute, for being thin… one of the values I think we need to instill in our country, in our children, is a sense of ‘usefulness’, in other words, are we useful, are we making other peoples’ lives a little bit better?
- Barack Obama

My parents shared not only an improbable love, they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me an African name, Barack, or blessed, believing that in a tolerant America your name is no barrier to success. They imagined me going to the best schools in the land, even though they weren't rich, because in a generous America you don't have to be rich to achieve your potential.
- Barack Obama

People don't expect government to solve all their problems. But they sense, deep in their bones, that with just a slight change in priorities, we can make sure that every child in America has a decent shot at life, and that the doors of opportunity remain open to all. They know we can do better.
- Barack Obama

Focusing your life solely on making a buck shows a certain poverty of ambition. It asks too little of yourself. Because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you realize your true potential.
- Barack Obama

No one is pro-abortion.
- Barack Obama

This budget tells our veterans that if they want increased funding for the VA they'll have to pay for it themselves.
- Barack Obama

Obama Quotes on Education

Community colleges play an important role in helping people transition between careers by providing the retooling they need to take on a new career.
- Barack Obama

We have an obligation and a responsibility to be investing in our students and our schools. We must make sure that people who have the grades, the desire and the will, but not the money, can still get the best education possible.
- Barack Obama

We need to internalize this idea of excellence. Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent.
- Barack Obama

With the changing economy, no one has lifetime employment. But community colleges provide lifetime employability.
- Barack Obama

Obama Quotes on Politics

A good compromise, a good piece of legislation, is like a good sentence; or a good piece of music. Everybody can recognize it. They say, 'Huh. It works. It makes sense.'
- Barack Obama

In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope?
- Barack Obama

My first job is to say thank you to those who voted me. Those who didn't, I'm going to get your vote next time.
- Barack Obama

My job is not to represent Washington to you, but to represent you to Washington.

There is not a liberal America and a conservative America - there is the United States of America. There is not a black America and a white America and latino America and asian America - there's the United States of America.
- Barack Obama

There's not a liberal America and a conservative America - there's the United States of America.
- Barack Obama

We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States.
- Barack Obama

Miscellaneous Obama quotes

A nation healed. A world repaired. An America that believes again.
- Barack Obama

That's why I can stand here today. Because somebody stood up when it was hard; stood up when it was risky.
- Barack Obama

I am running in this race because of what Dr. King called "the fierce urgency of now." Because I believe that there's such a thing as being too late. And that hour is almost upon us.
- Barack Obama

In my heart I know you didn't come here just for me, you came here because you believe in what this country can be. In the face of war, you believe there can be peace. In the face of despair, you believe there can be hope. In the face of a politics that's shut you out, that's told you to settle, that's divided us for too long, you believe we can be one people, reaching for what's possible, building that more perfect union.
- Barack Obama

That is the true genius of America, a faith in the simple dreams of its people, the insistence on small miracles. That we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe or hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted-or at least, most of the time.
- Barack Obama

This is our time, and I'm grateful to be a part of that.
- Barack Obama

I believe your comment about small town anger and frustration to be absolutely correct. I live in a small town in Northeast Ohio on the Lake Erie that is like a forgotten area. I know many people here who are angry, bitter, and frustrated with the government. I volunteer at the local hospital and to see the people who come in without health insurance in need of care and they are very bitter, angry and my heart aches for them. I have seven members of my extended family who have no health insurance. Presently I am paying Cobra for my daughter-in-law who lost her job because of a medical condition and needs surgery to correct it. ($470.02) per month for Cobra so she can eventually go back to her job and be self-sufficent. Am I bitter? A little as my husband and I are retired living on small pensions and S.S. But at age 77 and 78 we did not think we would be helping family members who through no fault on their own are in need of medical care. Jobs are scarce in this area and the pay is pitiful. My daughter works at a pre-school for 7.00/hr. Divorced after 25 years of marriage with a son 23 who goes to college. They live with us and we help them finacially They have no hospitalization as her ex-husband lost his job and his insurance. Am I bitter? A little. We do what we can for them but that doesn't mean there is not some bitterness and anger and I see it all around our neighborhood. Families on both sides of us have adult children living with them for many different reasons. None of them have health insurance. All of them work but not enough money to pay health insurance. Our town is like the forgotten area.

You can find all the quotes on Google. Most are from ontheissues.org (www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Barack_Obama.htm) or barackobama.com.

If you need information on specific quotes, I can track them down.

I was onboard until the lipstick remark...I guess if I watch this process unfold (which I certainly will) completely, I will see each of their true opinions come forward. Senator Obama apparently has a very low opinion of women. I wear lipstick, am a working mom, and certainly don't consider myself a "PIG"

In keeping with the original focus of Obama quotes, I discovered some excerpts from Obama's 11/4 speech have been set to music in a rather interesting way. The arrangement is called "Yes We Can" and is found at http://www.myspace.com/lcomsongs

I track and follow Obama's speeches every day. I've found a really cool website that allows you to submit your favorite quotes and have them on a shirt.

I’ve bought a couple for myself and family members and they are really great. Check it out here: www.obamaspoketome.com

Very cool products.

Thanks for blogging!
