Iran next?

A recent op-ed piece in the New York Daily News has a number of blogs buzzing over whether Barack Obama's intents with regard to Iran.

The decision to wage a misguided war in Iraq has substantially strengthened Iran, which now poses the greatest strategic challenge to U.S. interests in the Middle East in a generation. Iran supports violent groups and sectarian politics in Iraq, fuels terror and extremism across the Middle East and continues to make progress on its nuclear program in defiance of the international community. Meanwhile, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has declared that Israel must be "wiped off the map."

Now let it be known that even W. was not promising war during his first election campaign.

Clearly all the Democratic front-runners are developing strong interventionist positions regardless of whether they say the will pull out of Iraq or not.

What kind of pressure can be applied on Iran that hasn't been used in the decades since the hostage crisis? Obviously the only way to escalate things further is by some type of military action.
