Barack will announce new student loan proposal

Barack Obama will announce a new student loan plan today as part of his program to make college more affordable.

Obama wants to cut federal subsidies to banks designed to ensure a profit for the private institutions and instead channel this money into more loans. Loans made from banks and those obtained directly from the Education Department charge the same interest and fees.

Obama fares well in South Carolina poll

Although one could get seasick from following polls this early, the Obama camp did receive some heartening news from South Carolina.

An InsiderAdvantage and Majority Opinion shows Senator Obama leads Democrats with 31 percent of the vote, ahead of Senator Clinton's 27 percent and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards' 16 percent. About 21 percent of voters still undecided among the Democrats in South Carolina.

Indeed, it's highly likely in all other polls that don't include an "Undecided" category, that many of the respondents will sway back and forth before election time.
