I've got the argument down that Obama is the "candidate for change" and I do wish I could believe that if he were to be elected that he wouldn't be able to turn his back to communities of color because he has experienced the impact of systemic racism in his everyday life... <BR/><BR/>But I still think that even if Obama was the PERFECT candidate for President, we're still focusing on creating change in unsustainable ways. The movement that is happening as a result of people's dissatisfaction with the current Administration is the movement of the people mobilized to create change. That change does not come in a leader, because this will die when s/he is gone.<BR/><BR/>Real, sustainable social movements come from the people in their own communities. We can't see Obama as the candidate for "change" - we need to see the people as the ones creating the change in the first place.<BR/><BR/>I understand the desire to push Obama above Hillary in this race - he's obviously the more "liberal" candidate. BUT, Obama's election can't be the goal of a movement, especially when he is so "off" on countless issues (check out Z Magazine's article, "The Obama Illuision)..https://www.blogger.com/profile/11336561924751246099noreply@blogger.com
